Eliminate Your Double Chin with Kybella®

The Non-Surgical Solution for a Defined Jawline

Are you bothered by the appearance of a "double chin" (submental fullness) that won't go away with diet and exercise alone? KYBELLA® is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment designed to target and permanently destroy fat cells under the chin, helping you achieve a more contoured and confident profile without surgery.

Side-profile comparison of a woman's face before and after cosmetic treatments, showing improvement in neck and jawline.

What is Kybella and How Does it Work?

KYBELLA® uses a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When strategically injected into the fat beneath the chin by a trained healthcare professional, this acid disrupts and destroys the targeted fat cells. Once these cells are eliminated, they can no longer store or accumulate fat, resulting in a long-lasting reduction of fullness. The destroyed cells are naturally processed and eliminated by your body's metabolic system over time.

Key Benefits

Non-Surgical

Avoid incisions, anesthesia, and the significant downtime associated with surgical procedures like liposuction.

Permanent Results

Once the fat cells are destroyed, they are gone for good, providing a lasting solution for your chin profile (provided you maintain a stable weight).

Minimal Downtime

Most patients can return to their normal daily activities shortly after the treatment session, though some temporary swelling and bruising are common.

Improved Profile

Achieve a more defined chin and jawline, which can enhance overall facial harmony and boost self-confidence.

Customizable

Treatments are tailored to your specific needs and aesthetic goals, with most patients requiring 2 to 4 sessions spaced at least one month apart for optimal results.

Is Kybella Right for You?

KYBELLA® is an ideal treatment for healthy adults who are bothered by moderate to severe fat beneath the chin and prefer a non-surgical approach. A consultation with our expert practitioners is essential to determine if you are a suitable candidate and to develop a personalized treatment plan.

Please note:  Kybella is not a weight-loss solution for general fat reduction, nor is it effective for loose skin (skin laxity).

What are common Kybella side effects and how long do they last?

The most common side effects of Kybella are injection site reactions, which are temporary and generally resolve within a few days to several weeks. The duration of side effects varies by individual and the number of treatments received.

  • Woman in a blue shirt, looking upward, resting chin on hand, pondering. Background is a bookshelf.

  • Swelling Peaks in 24-48 hours; largely subsides within 1–2 weeks; mild puffiness can last up to 4–6 weeks. Swelling is the most common side effect and a normal sign that the treatment is working as the body initiates an inflammatory response to break down fat cells. The area may appear visibly full, sometimes described as a "bullfrog" effect, especially after the first session.
  • Bruising Usually fades within a few days to two weeks. Bruising is a common reaction at the injection sites.
  • Pain/Tenderness Most intense immediately after injections; usually subsides within a few days to one week. Discomfort can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers and ice packs.
  • Numbness Typically resolves within a few weeks, but can persist for several months in some cases. Numbness is temporary and occurs due to the effect on nerves in the treated area.
  • Areas of Hardness (Induration/Nodules) Generally soften and disappear over 4–12 weeks. These are localized areas of inflammation as the body processes cellular debris.
  • Redness/Warmth Usually fades within a few days. This is part of the normal inflammatory response.

Less Common and Serious Side Effects

While rare, more serious side effects can occur, often resolving on their own over time:

  • Nerve injury in the jaw (causing an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness) typically resolves spontaneously, often within 1 to 10 months.
  • Difficulty swallowing generally resolves within a few days to a few weeks.
  • Hair loss in the treated area has been reported and its duration may vary.
  • Skin ulceration, necrosis, or infection can occur if injections are too superficial or due to other complications.

When to Contact Your Provider

You should contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience:

Signs of nerve injury, such as a lopsided smile or facial muscle weakness.

Persistent difficulty swallowing or breathing.

Increased redness, severe pain, open sores, or drainage from the treatment area, which could indicate an infection or tissue damage.
